Sonke's Sad Princess mystery has finally been uncovered. If you stroll through certain areas of downtown Athens, you'll see the Sad Princess in many places. The artist’s name is Sonke and the Sad Princess is his tribute to an ex girlfriend. After she broke up with Sonke, the artist started painting her on the walls his ex would pass on her way to work. Sonke accompanied his Sad Princess street art with captions such as ‘let’s be friends’. The princess has become Sonke's iconic image. She always has her eyes closed though. Sonke revealed the reason during an interview. Apparently, he can’t paint eyes very well, and every time he tries, the princess looks cross-eyed. |
